Jammu, July 18

A Captain and a Naib Subedar died when a grenade went off accidentally in Poonch district of Jammu division on Sunday night. The incident took place in Mendhar sector when Army personnel were performing their duty close to the Line of Control (LoC), said Army’s Public Relations Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Devender Anand.

The deceased have been identified as Captain Anand, who hailed from Champa Nagar in Bhagalpur district of Bihar, and Naib Subedar Bhagwan Singh of Pokhar Bhitta village in Ambedkar Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh.

“Immediately after the blast, the injured were airlifted to the Army’s Udhampur hospital. During the treatment, Captain Anand and Naib Subedar Bhagwan Singh succumbed to their injuries,” said Lt Col Anand.

The White Knight Corps stated, “The GOC of the Corps and all ranks salute the bravehearts, who made the supreme sacrifice while performing their duties.”
