Admn allows heavy vehicles to move from Jammu to Srinagar

Even as the traffic was restored on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway on Sunday, the weatherman has issued warning of another spell of rain and snow that is likely to cause disruption in surface transportation from March 3.

The Traffic police in a statement said that passenger vehicles are plying from both sides smoothly on the NH. “However, heavy motor vehicles (HMVs) are plying from Jammu towards Srinagar. Commuters are advised to follow lane discipline, overtaking will cause congestion” the advisory read. The movement of HMVs was allowed on Sunday so that supplies of essential commodities can reach Valley.

It further stated that passengers are advised to undertake journey on the Jammu-Srinagar NH during the day time and avoid unnecessary haltage between Ramban and Banihal as there is apprehension of landslides and shooting stones. However, the Zojila Pass that connects Ladakh with Kashmir, Bhaderwah-Chamba road, Mughal Road and Sinthan road remained closed due to accumulation of snow.

On the other hand, the Srinagar Meteorological Center has stated that there will be light to moderate rain and snow (on higher reaches) at most places with moderate to heavy snow over few higher reaches on March 3.

“It will be generally dry from March 4-9. There will be another spell of rain and snow from March 10-13,” the weather department said.
