Sericulture Director Ajaz Ahmad Bhat today undertook a visit to the tribal areas to create awareness about the facilities and incentives being provided by the department to silkworm rearers, a government spokesman said.

Bhat told people in the tribal areas of Kangan that silkworm rearing, being an in-house practice, didn’t require large space, making it accessible and advantageous for both general and landless farmers. Bhat said some facilities were being provided by the department which also included financial assistance for the construction of rearing sheds.

Bhat said mulberry plants are indispensable for sustaining the growth of the sericulture sector in J&K.
