EC sources said it had also appointed the Nalin Prabhat as UT’s DG (Operations & Security), J&K Police, till September 30. Prabhat is all set to take charge of DG, JKP, as outgoing DG RR Swain is retiring on September 30.

Sources said the officers who were being shifted included police chiefs of Srinagar, Kupwara, Baramulla and police district Handwara.

The commission has also approved the relieving of Srinagar SSP Ashish Mishra, who was transferred from J&K to Delhi Police in June 2023, but could not be relieved due to administrative reasons.

The transfer of Baramulla SSP Gurinderpal Singh, Handwara SP Dawood Ayoub and Kupwara SSP Shobhit Saxena has also been approved. Gurinderpal was appointed Baramulla SSP this month only.

The EC has directed UT administration “to provide a panel of IPS officers for the post of SP/SSP Srinagar, Baramulla, Handwara and Kupwara by Thursday 5 pm,” sources said.
