Jammu and Kashmir Minister for Health and Medical Education, Sakeena Itoo, on Saturday informed the Legislative Assembly that the government has asked the Anantnag district administration to provide immediate relief to the fire victims of Kadipora, Anantnag, from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund as well as Disaster Management Relief Fund.

“On the directions of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, I along with MLAs Peerzada Mohd Sayeed, Abdul Majeed Larmi and Altaf Ahmad Wani visited the site to make an on-the-spot assessment of relief measures and the damage caused by the devastating fire incident,” the minister apprised the House.

Itoo said that the government is committed to the long-term rehabilitation of the affected families of the fire incident.

The minister informed that the district administration has been asked to expedite the rehabilitation process and provide immediate relief, including temporary shelter, food supplies and financial aid for urgent help of the victims.

The minister also informed that the administration has been directed to conduct a thorough assessment of damages and provide swift compensation to the affected households. She said that a meeting was held with the district administration to evaluate the relief efforts and ensure timely aid. She also informed that the timber would also be provided to the affected families on priority basis.

Pertinently, the Speaker, Abdul Rahim Rather, had asked the minister to brief the House about the ongoing relief efforts in wake of devastating Kadipora fire incident following yesterday’s visit of the minister to the site.

Earlier, the fire incident was raised by legislator Dr Bashir Ahmad Veeri in the House.
