The Army came to the rescue of those stranded on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway by providing them food. The highway was blocked due to landslides in Ramban district and was cleared for traffic after 24 hours on Saturday evening.

The authorities said the highway was blocked after massive landslides and falling of stones from a mountain at Panthayal. Nearly 700 vehicles plying towards Jammu were stranded for 24 hours.

On getting information, the Army reached the location along with a medical team. The stranded passengers were provided tea, food and first aid.

“After remaining closed for over 24 hours, the Jammu-Srinagar highway has been restored and normal traffic is plying on it. Falling of stones and landslides are normal on the stretch but the road opening reams are prepared to deal with any situation,” said a senior traffic official at Ramban.

Though the traffic has been resumed on the road, several trucks on the Jammu-Udhampur highway are stranded and truckers have been facing hardships due to non-availability of food, water and toilets.
