“The Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police remain committed to bolstering the safety and security of #JammuAndKashmir,” the Army added.

The meeting is significant as the Jammu region is witnessing an increase in militancy. The Northern Commander heads all the Corps based in J&K and Ladakh.

A 1992-batch IPS officer, Prabhat was until recently heading elite National Security Guard after his tenure was prematurely curtailed and he was transferred to AGMUT cadre. Soon after, the Home Ministry appointed him as Special DG of the J&K Police and also ordered he would take over as J&K Police’s DGP after the retirement of present DGP RR Swain on September 30. He is known for his anti-Maoist work.

Meanwhile, northern Commander, alongwith GOC of 15 Corps, visited South Kashmir to review the “counter terrorism grid and prevalent security situation.” He was briefed on Soldier-Citizen connect and operational preparedness.
