The Congress on Monday named six more candidates, including JKPCC president Tariq Karra who will contest from Central Shalteng seat.

Karra, a former MP, was appointed the JKPCC president last month. He joined the Congress in 2017 after leaving PDP in 2016. Karra was also a founding member of the PDP.

As per the list released by AICC general Secretary KC Venugopal, Mumtaz Khan will contest from Reasi, Bhupendra Jamwal from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi, Iftikhar Ahmad from Rajouri (ST), Shabir Ahmad Khan from Thanamandi (ST) and Muhammad Shahnawaz Choudhary from Surankote (ST).

The Congress has entered into an alliance with the National Conference. As per the poll pact, the NC is contesting 51 seats and the Congress 32. On five seats, both parties are pitted against each other.

AIP’s 10 more nominees

The Awami Ittehad Party (AIP), led by jailed MP Engineer Rashid, has also announced more candidates. Former legislator Yasir Rishi, who was associated with J&K People’s Conference, on Monday joined the Rashid’s party. He would contest from Sonawari Bandipora seat.

The party also announced names of 10 candidates. Those who have been named by the party are Istiyaq Qadri from Habba Kadal, Muhammad Maqbool Beigh from Hazratbal, Sheikh Ashiq from Ganderbal, advocate Javaid Ahmad Hubbi from Chrar-e-Sharief, Shoib Lone from Baramulla, Prince Parvaiz from Bandipora, Naseer Ahmed Rather from Wagoora Kreeri, advocate Raja Ashraf Ali Khan from Kangan, and advocate Dawood Ahmed from Lolab.
