The Central Government on Saturday ordered the constitution of an inter-ministerial team to visit a village in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district to ascertain the cause of 15 deaths in the past one-and-a-half months.

The inter-ministerial team, led by the Union Home Ministry, will visit the affected Badhaal village where the 15 persons have died due to a mysterious illness.

The Central team will consist of experts from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilisers and Ministry of Water Resources, official sources said.

The team will be assisted by experts from animal husbandry, food safety and forensic science laboratories.

The Central team will proceed to Jammu on January 19 and, in collaboration with the local administration, will also work on providing immediate relief as well as taking precautionary measures to prevent such incidents in future, the sources said.

Experts from some of the most reputed institutions of the country have been arranged to manage the situation and understand the causative factors of deaths, they said.

On January 15, a nine-year-old girl had died at a hospital in Jammu, taking the number of mysterious deaths in the remote Badhaal village to 15 in one-and-a-half months even as the police set up a special investigation team to probe the reason behind the fatalities.

Jammu and Kashmir Health Minister Sakeena Masood has ruled out any mysterious disease as the reason for the deaths, saying all tests conducted both within and outside the Union Territory have shown negative results.

All the victims have shown similar symptoms such as vomiting and loss of consciousness, doctors said.
