A day after Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former legislator from North Kashmir’s Gurez, Faqeer Muhammad Khan, shot himself dead in Srinagar, former Chief Minister and PDP president Mehbooba Mufti visited Khan’s residence in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.

PDP officials said Mufti visited Kangan to offer her condolences. She expressed solidarity with the bereaved family in this difficult time.

Khan, who was a BJP leader, was earlier associated with the PDP.

On Thursday, Khan shot himself at his official residence in Tulsi Bagh, Srinagar.

On Friday, the J&K Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders and workers gathered at BJP head office in Jawahar Nagar, Srinagar, to pay their condolences on the demise of Khan, said a BJP statement.

BJP leaders said Khan was a towering political figure who dedicated his life to public service and the welfare of the people of Gurez and beyond. His immense contributions to the development of the region and his unwavering commitment to the party’s ideology will always be remembered, the party said.

Prominent BJP leaders, along with party workers, expressed sorrow over his passing, calling it a great loss for the party and the people of Jammu & Kashmir. They extended their condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for the departed soul, the statement said.

“BJP leaders highlighted his role in strengthening the party’s base in the region and his relentless efforts for the uplift of the people of Gurez, Bandipora. His legacy will continue to inspire many in the political and social spheres,” it said.

The BJP leadership reaffirmed their commitment to carrying forward his vision and working for the betterment of the people he served throughout his life.
