The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today termed the Gupkar declaration a “fairy tale” and another poll plank to befool people.

“National Conference president Farooq Abdullah is daydreaming, Gupkar declaration is nothing but a fairy tale. Now that the regional political parties like the NC, PDP and others are left with no option, they have started playing politics again and the declaration is another poll plank to befool people of Jammu and Kashmir to grab power,” said BJP spokesman Altaf Thakur in a statement.

Over a year after the scrapping of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status, six main political parties, including the National Conference, Peoples Democratic Party and the Congress, had on August 22 announced that they stood by the Gupkar declaration and would jointly fight for the restoration of Article 370.

The declaration had been drafted on August 4 last year.
