The online communication of study material and assignments to students by government as well as private institutions is hitting a roadblock due to the slow internet speed and non availability of cyber cafes for downloading the prints.

It is being alleged that government and private institutions have started sending study material and assignments to students with a directive that after reopening of the institutions, students have to submit the assignments on time and take exams as scheduled.

“Due to slow internet speed, we are failing to transmit heavy PDF files. Also, we are unable to download these files on smartphones, with message of failed transaction often popping up, while institutions are not taking any view of such impediments,” said Akshay Anand, a BE student of a government college.

Meanwhile, a professor at a private institute said these directions had come from higher authorities, to disseminate educational notes and other study material to students so that they can keep themselves abreast with their school or college academic session.

Dheeraj Samnotra, a school student, said though students were receiving PDF files and trying to download them, studying a large number of pages on smartphone was taxing.

“For this we need prints of the notes and no cyber café is open so getting prints is a bigger problem,” said Samnotra.

Anuradha Gupta, Director (education), Jammu, said the government and Education Department was making all out efforts to smoothen the process.

Besides, we are arranging for a teleconferencing system soon which will benefit the students,” Gupta said.

She said the department was in touch with radio stations also and a slot would be taken where professors will be delivering lectures to the students. All possible means were being worked out, including taking post office services, to deliver notes and assignments to the students at home, the director added.
