National Conference MLA from Budhal constituency, Javed Choudhary, on Thursday alleged that dual power system in Jammu and Kashmir was causing problems for the patients of mysterious illness in Rajouri.

Choudhary alleged that bureaucratic failures prevented three sisters who fell ill on Wednesday from being transferred to PGI Chandigarh.

"No one is willing to take responsibility for the patients as officers and doctors are playing it safe under the dual power system. Since the Chief Minister lacks authority over the bureaucracy, officials are not heeding the demands of the people of Badhaal," the MLA alleged.

"There is a political tussle as the relationship between the Centre and state is not as it should be. I have spoken to various levels of bureaucracy, and they are passing the buck to each other. There should be no ego clashes among officials during this time of crisis. The Principal of GMC Jammu did not listen to me, which prevented the three sisters from being transferred to PGI despite being referred from Rajouri," he claimed.

The MLA further alleged a communication gap among officials. "The team sent by the Union Home Minister recently collected samples that are still in Rajouri. These will be sent later to different labs across the country. The team primarily indulged in photo shoot and sampling," he said.

The MLA demanded that an air ambulance be stationed for patients from Badhaal and that the crisis be declared a national emergency.

Meanwhile, GMC Jammu Principal Dr Ashutosh Gupta stated in a press release that the hospital was informed about airlifting three sisters from GMC Rajouri to GMC Jammu at approximately 6:30 pm on Wednesday. He said that GMC Jammu authorities prepared critical care ambulances to transport these patients to PGIMER Chandigarh by road. However, despite repeated requests, the PGIMER administration declined to accept the children, citing a lack of available beds.
