The Centre for Study of Social Exclusion and Inclusive Policy, University of Jammu (JU), as a part their lecture series organised a public talk on “Dalit women’s life narratives as an agency for social change” by Dr Parveen Kumari, Assistant Professor of English, Central University of Jammu. -Prof Monika Sethi, Head, Department of English, JU, presided over the function. Dr Kumari in her talk focused on the emergence of Dalit literature as social, realistic and revolutionary in nature. She talked about life narratives in Dalit women’s context, a socially excluded group, which through articulation was moving from exclusion to inclusion. Prof Monika Sethi in her presidential remarks focused on more comparative studies regarding Dalit narratives which demand empathy and not pity from the readers.

120 participate in Speed ball fest

J&K Sports Speed Ball Association organised open State Speed Ball Festival-2019 at Birla Open Minds International School. Around 120 participants from 60 schools took part in the competition. A total of 23 medals were bagged by students of Rich Harvest School. Archit, Krish, Hitesh, Utkarsh, Mayank, Shivam, Koushiki, Sujal, Natanshveer and Shourya clinched gold medals. Five silver medals were bagged by Krish, Jaipal, Mohammad Haaris and Anshu. Akshit, Sajan, Aryan, Lalit, Ankit, Ayansh, Abhay and Shivam clinched bronze medal.

Workshop on live painting technique

A painting workshop on live painting technique was organised at BSF Senior Secondary School. Renowned painter from Jammu, KK Gandhi was the resource person who demonstrated fine points of conventional painting technique and colour travel technique to the students. Around 250 students of the school participated in the workshop. A painting competition was also organised. Aradhya Sharma of Class VII stood first in the junior division while Harsh Verma of Class XI stood first in the senior group.

APS damana holds sports quiz

Army Public School (APS), Damana, organised inter-school sports quiz competition under hub of learning on the school premises. The aim of the competition was to inculcate a spirit of healthy competition, team effort, updating knowledge about latest development in the field of sports along with enhancing the ability for expressions. Five CBSE Schools from Jammu cluster comprising 150 students participated in the competition and each team comprised of four participants. The competition was divided into four rounds which included multiple choice questions, direct questions, visual round and rapid fire. Bhrigun Gupta, Sushant Verma, Romit Koul and William Manhas of APS Damana secured first position while APS Miran Sahib bagged second position. Rajesh Rathore, Principal of GD Goenka Public School, Pushpinder Kaur, Principal, APS, Damana, distributed trophies and certificates to the winners and participants.

Motivational guest lecture

Army Public School (APS), Damana, organised a motivational guest lecture where MY Kichloo, SSP, J&K Police (Security Wing), was the guest of honour. He sensitised the students about cyber crime. The students were made aware about the preventive measures. The resource person brought to light the usage of the social media with its do’s and don’ts to avoid becoming the victim of the cyber crime by taking into account Internet safety measures. Pushpinder Kaur, Principal, APS, Damana, was also present.

SMVDU prof presents research work

Dr Sanjeev Anand, Assistant Professor, School of Energy Management, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), presented research work on indoor air quality with paper titled ventilation system and particle dispersion analysis of operation theatre during international conference on Energy Research and Development (ICERD-7) held under the Patronage of Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah at Kuwait. The research work was co-authored by Dr Yatheshth Anand, Shubham Verma and Saurabh Sawhney.
