Chander Mohan Gupta, Mayor, Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) was the chief guest. Randeep Kumar, SSP CID, J&K Police, along with other special invitees were also present. The function began with the lighting of the traditional lamp followed by a welcome speech by Ritesh Kapoor, MLZS director. Students enthralled the audience with their spectacular performances which included cultural items, short skit and martial arts. The theme was “Sankalp”. Principal Rahul Kapoor read out the annual report. Later, prizes were distributed among the meritorious students.
Int’l conference on mathematics
Dr Rakesh Kumar, faculty, School of Mathematics, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) delivered a talk at an international conference on mathematics in Space and Applied Sciences (ICMSAS-2019) organised by the department of mathematics, NSCBM, Government College, Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh, recently. The conference was sponsored by the National Board for Higher Mathematics (NBHM) and Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), which witnessed a huge participation from all over the world. A total of 250 research papers were presented during the conference.
Bhavdeep excels in badminton meet
Bhavdeep Singh, a Class VI student of Doon International School, Jammu, has brought laurels to the institution by emerging winner in the 34th Jammu District Badminton Championship, 2019, both in singles and doubles category. The championship was organised by Jammu District Badminton Association. Vice-chairman, MA Tantray and Principal Dr Vikesh Kaur congratulated him.
Scholarship carnival
A week-long scholarship carnival was launched by Harbans Bhalla Educational Trust (HBET) for 500 students hailing from rural areas. Besides scholarships, the children will also get free medical and eye-checkups in the ongoing camp. Counselling will be conducted for students and their parents. Students will also participate in academic tests. Managing Trustee of HBET said scholarships would be distributed to 500 students over the next seven days. Pertinently, HBET has been awarding scholarships since 1997.
SMVDU scholar awarded
Shubham Mahajan, a Ph D scholar of School of Electronics and Communication Engineering, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) was awarded with the IEEE Region 10 Travel Grant during the IEEE Signal Processing Winter School and International Conference on Signal Processing, Information, Communication and Systems (SPICSCON 2019), which was held on November 28, 2019, at Dhaka (Bangladesh). The IEEE region 10 includes Asia and Pacific region.
Blind federation incharge meets JU VC
Prof Kusumlata Malik, project incharge, National Federation of Blind, called upon Prof Manoj Dhar, Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu (JU) today. She apprised the VC about the hardships and difficulties being faced by the visually impaired people, especially girls. She said Louis Braille School for Sightless Girls in Roopnagar, Jammu, was the only school in the UT catering to sightless girls. She said the initiatives taken by the government were not sufficient, adding that the support of academics and social workers was needed. Prof Manoj Dhar appreciated the dedication of Prof Malik and extended full cooperation to help the National Federation of Blind to overcome their difficulties and obstacles.
