Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party (JKAP) president Altaf Bukhari on Thursday urged the government to announce a rehabilitation plan for Jhelum dwellers.

“The unplanned eviction drive launched by the administration against Jhelum river dwellers in Kashmir is contrary to the law. The government should ensure a proper rehabilitation plan for families likely to be displaced during the process. The administration has blindly served notices on the families residing alongside the bank of Jhelum from Seerbagh-Sempora downstream of Pampore to Takenwari-Panzinara near Shadipora Sumbal before conducting a detailed survey, including identification of alternative sites for their rehabilitation. This type of forced eviction of Jhelum dwellers is against the law and totally unacceptable,” said Bukhari in a statement.

He also appealed to the Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, to intervene into the matter, and put a stop to the eviction drive. — TNS
