Five detained over smuggling SIM cards into Central Jail

The Counter-Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) on Tuesday said it has detained five people for interrogation for their involvement in a criminal conspiracy hatched with anti-national elements aiming at procuring and smuggling of SIM cards inside the Central Jail premises.

A police statement said that SIM cards were smuggled for use by jail inmates who include those involved in terrorism and narco-terrorism.

The police said the detention was carried in connection with a case which has been registered at CIK police station. The CIK had earlier carried out searches inside the Central Jail premises and it was found that these suspects “in connivance with some inmates have procured and transported SIM cards inside the jail for its use in a variety of terror-related activities”.

The spokesperson said the role of vendors of different telecom service providers (TSPs) who have issued these SIM cards is being ascertained and further arrests are expected. The police said the persons detained belong to the areas of Dawoodpora Anantnag, Qamarwari Srinagar, Nathpora, Kaloosa, Bandipora and Kursu Padshahibagh, Srinagar.
