Five persons lost their lives in a tragic road accident in Kargil district on Tuesday when two vehicles collided, sending both plunging nearly 500 feet, an official said.

The incident occurred near Shilikchey in Kargil, where a car carrying four passengers collided with a tipper transporting three passengers. According to the official, the car reportedly lost control and crashed into the tipper, resulting in the deaths of two individuals in the car and all three passengers in the tipper.

Two survivors, who sustained critical injuries, are currently receiving treatment at the District Hospital in Kargil.

A swift rescue operation was carried out by personnel from the Ladakh Police, the Army, and Basij Imam Volunteers from Kargil.

Chief Executive Councillor (CEC) of LAHDC Kargil, Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, expressed deep grief over the tragic accident.
