Football tournament kicks off in Jammu

A football tournament, Laksh-Season 6, began with an inaugural ceremony at Parade Ground, Jammu, on Tuesday. Superintendent of Police, North, Vivek Shekhar Sharma was the chief guest.

The opening day featured a total of four matches, wherein FC Baroo defeated United Nubra FC by 6-1, MEWSL Academy defeated Star FC by 6-1, Reallona FC defeated Northern FC by 4-1 and United Zanskar FC defeated JT FC by 2-0, respectively.

Jammu SP commended the organisers for their initiative to use sports as a means of addressing critical social challenges. He emphasised that Laksh is not just about football, it is a movement aimed at steering young minds away from harmful habits such as drug abuse and online gaming addiction.

“The tournament also seeks to foster communal harmony by bringing together young players from diverse backgrounds, united by their shared passion for football,” he added.

Founder director of Laksh Society, Ladakh, Sajeed Jafri said “Sports are a powerful force for positive change, and the Laksh tournament is a shining example of this. It provides a platform for young talent to thrive while addressing pressing issues affecting our youth. I commend the dedication of Ladakhi footballers for their passion to participate in Laksh and wish all the teams success in this tournament.”
