Srinagar/Jammu, February 25
The higher reaches of Kashmir received fresh snowfall, while the plains were lashed by rains on Tuesday, bringing much-needed respite to the residents of the Valley, officials said on Tuesday.
Gulmarg and the surrounding areas received fresh snowfall, while the higher reaches in other parts of the valley also witnessed snowfall this afternoon, officials said. The plains of the Valley, including Srinagar, were lashed by rains, which brought the day temperature down by several degrees, they added. The Meteorological Department has forecast wet weather in the Valley over the next 96 hours.
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has issued a warning about impact on surface transportation during the next three days.
A western disturbance (WD)-affected J&K and adjoining areas will continue till February to 28. Due to heavy snowfall, the Zojila pass that connects Kashmir region with Ladakh has been also blocked.
The Meteorological Department stated that the weather system may lead to disruption of surface and air transportation like Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, Sadhna pass, Razdhan pass, Sonamarg-Zojila axis, Sinthan top and Mughal Road. The tourists, travellers and transporters have been advised to plan accordingly. — OC
