Budgam: Girl dies by suicide, man held for abetment

Srinagar, February 15

A girl allegedly died by suicide after her boyfriend reportedly refused to marry her in Budgam district, police said on Thursday.

The body of the deceased, identified as Kulsum Rehman, a resident of Drung Tangmarg, was recovered from an open field in the Magam area on Wednesday.

“On February 14, a call was received at Magam police station, reporting the recovery of a body in an open field, a police spokesman said. Following the report, investigation was started in the case. The police said a suicide note was recovered during a personal search of the deceased, implicated a local youth, alleging his involvement in her decision to commit suicide due to an alleged affair and subsequent denial of marriage.

“Prima facia seems to be a case of poisoning-related suicide abetted by the youth, who was arrested in the case.” A case under Section 306 of the IPC has been registered and further investigations are on, said police.
