Govt committed to terror-free UT: Shah
Just days after holding a review meeting on Jammu and Kashmir (J&K), Union Home Minister Amit Shah held another round of discussions on Tuesday with top Army, paramilitary, and police officials. Shah emphasised the importance of leaving no gaps in area domination by the CRPF and the BSF, particularly focusing on the Jammu region, which has seen a series of terror attacks over the past eight months.
During the meeting, Shah stressed the need for maintaining dominance in high-altitude areas and reviewed the winter action plan of the CRPF. He also assessed the intelligence apparatus in the region and directed officials to enhance coverage and penetration to generate quality intelligence. Shah highlighted the significance of technology in intelligence gathering.
The Centre under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi is committed to a terror-free Jammu and Kashmir, Home Minister Amit Shah said.
Furthermore, Shah called for monitoring terror financing, tightening control over narco-terror cases, and dismantling the entire terror ecosystem in J&K, which remains a top priority for the Centre. He urged the CRPF to continue collaborating closely with the Army and J&K Police and to focus on countering negative propaganda by anti-national elements in order to present the correct narrative to the public.
The meeting was attended by Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, Intelligence Bureau Director Tapan Deka, and the Directors General of CRPF and BSF, GP Singh and Daljit Singh Chaudhary, respectively, along with other senior officials.
Shah had previously met with Army and J&K Police top brass on February 4 and 5 to discuss the security situation, specifically addressing the need to fill gaps along the LoC and international borders. He had stressed the need to fortify these areas, particularly during the monsoon season, when swollen rivers create opportunities for infiltration by terrorists.
Incidentally, Tuesday’s meeting came on the heels of an IED attack in J&K’s Akhnoor sector, which claimed the lives of two soldiers.
