Two days after he was allegedly assaulted by soldiers during vehicle checking in Nowshera, Liaqat Ali, an assistant professor, said he has developed infection in a wound sustained on his head during the incident.

Ali had reportedly sustained injuries in the alleged assault near the border village of Laam late Thursday night. A purported video showing the bleeding professor has also surfaced online.

Ali said that after receiving stitches for a head wound—allegedly caused by a rifle butt—he returned to Rajouri from Government Medical College (GMC), Jammu, to attend a marriage ceremony. “Today, when I visited a local doctor to change the dressing, he informed me that the wound had developed an infection, which is concerning,” said Ali.

He added that all his initial tests were conducted at GMC, Jammu. Ali had travelled to Rajouri from New Delhi to attend the marriage ceremony. He is associated with Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU). The incident reportedly occurred during a routine vehicle check, when he was allegedly beaten.

Speaking to The Tribune, Ali said the wound was extremely painful. “Doctors have put me on antibiotics, but the wound will take time to heal,” he added.

The J&K Police have registered an FIR in the case under Sections 126(2) and 115(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Ali stated that his formal statement has not yet been recorded. However, he did not blame the police, explaining that when he visited the Nowshera police station, the officials were out in the field.

The Army has already initiated a probe into the matter.
