The Home Department of the UT suspended a prosecuting officer after his arrest by the police for carrying contraband in Rajouri district.

According to an order by Additional Secretary of the J&K Home Department Khaleed Majeed, the suspension shall be deemed to have been with effected from May 4. “As per the report received from the Director General of Prosecution, J&K, Waseem Ahmad Qureshi, Assistant Public Pros ecutor in the Court of Judicial Magistrate, Ukhral (prosecuting officer), while on his way from Rajouri on May 4, 2020, was found to be in possession of 8 gm of contraband by a police party of Rajouri,” the order mentioned.

Subsequently, a case under Sections 8(a) and 21/29 of the NDPS Act, 1985, was registered at the Rajouri police station against him and he continues to be in judicial remand.

“On account of having remained in the police custody for more than 48 hours, (he) is required to be placed under suspension in terms of the provisions of Civil Services Rules, 1956,” the order said. — TNS
