Home delivery of essentials yet to pick pace

Even as few stores have started home delivery of groceries, residents by and large are facing problem in receiving essential goods. Though some are getting groceries at their doorsteps, others say they are not.

“Four days ago, I placed an order but I am yet to receive the same. Few stores in uptown Srinagar may be home delivering but here and in most areas of downtown, this service has not picked up,” said Samina, a resident of downtown.

As many as 23 stores have been designated to home deliver groceries in the city limits.

While home deliveries are happening in some areas, residents say all commodities were not available.

“I placed an order two days ago but the dealer told me that goods were not available and the same can be delivered once the fresh stock is in,” said Irfan, a resident of Goripora.

However, he said vegetables were freely available now. “First few days of lockdown were very tough but now vegetables are available. Chicken is also available at times but mutton is totally missing,” he said.

People of other districts seem to be facing more problems, especially with respect to delivery of medicines.

“I failed to get medicines home delivered and travelling to Srinagar from here amid lockdown is no easy task. People are facing many problems with respect to getting medicines,” said Jibran, a resident of Bandipora.

He said area residents had to depend on acquaintances travelling from Srinagar to North Kashmir for medicines.
