Ladakh MP Jamyang Tsering Namgyal on Tuesday inaugurated a representative office of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) in Leh.

The initiative will aid in development of the newly formed UT by extending support to government initiatives besides spreading knowledge in the field of accountancy and facilitating services to the upcoming and existing members and students, read an ICAI press release.

The office in Eliezer Joldan Memorial College will facilitate grant of 75 per cent waiver in the registration fee for students pursuing CA course from Ladakh UT, delivery of specialised training programmes for government officials and encouraging more local students to pursue the CA course.

Namgyal said the waiver of 75 per cent fee for the CA course would be the biggest motivating factor for students of Ladakh.

More CAs in Ladakh will play a very positive role in its financial and commercial development, he said.

ICAI president Atul Kumar Gupta expected the office to spread awareness about the CA course as a tool for social empowerment. It will also provide professional employment opportunities to the local youth.
