In Covid times, Valley artistes release song of hope ‘Ya Khuda’

Popular actors, film makers and singers of the Kashmir Valley have come together to release a song of hope in Covid-19 times.

Written and conceived by Bollywood actor of Kashmiri-origin Mir Sarwar, the song was released on Wednesday on a few radio and television channels.

Later in the evening, the song was doing the rounds on social media platforms like WhatsApp and Facebook.

The videos were shot individually by Valley’s popular actors like Tariq Javed, Zameer Ashai, G M Wani, Mushtaaque Ali, Shadilal Koul, Kamal Razdan and later compiled by Sarwar, who is based in Mumbai.

“This prayer song is composed by Ajaz Rah and shot entirely during the lockdown. Bringing all the senior actors of Kashmir was not an easy task. I personally contacted all the senior actors and asked them to take their shots by mobile and share with me later,” Sarwar told The Tribune.

The song titled ‘Ya Khuda’ has been sung by Ajaz Rah, Imran Latief and Umer Mehraj.

Sarwar said the song was being well received and would be released on more social media platforms on Thursday.

“We got an overwhelming response after its release on radio and TV channels. The song is a prayer where all artists are seen praying and hoping that things get back to normal after coronavirus pandemic. The space for artistic expression too has shrunk in the lockdown and the song gave us a platform to express ourselves,” added Sarwar, who has acted in several Bollywood films like Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Dishoom, Jolly LLB and Kesari among others.

Hussein Khan, director of ‘Kashmir Daily’ that had become the first local film to get an over-the-top (OTT) release, is also a part of the video.
