In two days, 1,900 penalised for traffic violations in Jammu

The traffic police have started a special drive to penalise the traffic rules’ violators in the district.
According to the traffic police, around 1,900 violators were penalised for different kinds of violations on road in Jammu district alone during the last two days, while over Rs 9 lakh revenue was generated.
“Earlier, our focus was on regulation of traffic. Now, with the fall in traffic congestion, we have launched a joint drive to check violations. In the last two days, the traffic police have issued around 1,900 challans for different violations in Jammu district. Different agencies, including police, district administration and civic body are assisting us not only in checking traffic violations, but also removing encroachments along the roads,” Joginder Singh, SSP, Traffic, Jammu, told The Tribune.
There are over 8 lakh vehicles in Jammu district alone, out of which 40 per cent are two-wheelers.
After Durbar Move and season migration of people to Jammu in winters, Jammu roads feel the pressure of more than 50,000 additional vehicles.
The drive against wrongly parked vehicles have been launched mainly on busy and major roads, including Talab Tillo-Jewel Chowk, Janipur road, Sarwal-New Plot-Rehari stretch, KC Crossing-BC Road up to Bus stand, Gumat Bazaar, Vinayak Bazaar, Prem Nagar-Gujjar Nagar, Parade-Kachi Chawni, Shalamar-Indira Chowk and Super Speciality Hospital road to Maheshpora-Bakshi Nagar Bazaar.
Meanwhile, the Kathua police also launched a special drive to check traffic violations in the district on Tuesday. Around 540 vehicles were penalised under the Motor Vehicles Act. As many as 215 vehicles were impounded and 325 challans issued.
