An inquiry was initiated against the teaching staff of the high school at Manyal village for their lackadaisical attitude towards duty and mismanagement in the school.
The high school of Manyal is situated a few hundred metres away from the tehsil headquarters at Thanamandi. On Wednesday, on a written complaint, Mukhtar Sheikh, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) deputed a team of officials, headed by the Naib Tehsildar, to inspect the school and verify the complaint.
Maneera Begam, sarpanch of Manyal village, and others had alleged that funds worth Rs 30,000 sanctioned for the renovation of toilet block, three computers and a television set donated by the Army were missing from the school, besides other irregularities.
They alleged that most of the time teachers remain absent from duty as they have managed the affairs in such a way (on rotational basis) that only a few come to the school.
“As only students belonging to poor families study in government schools, teachers don’t bother about their future. The final examinations are approaching fast and the syllabus is still incomplete,” said the villagers.
The sarpanch and others had demanded strict action against the erring teachers.
“After allegations of mismanagement in the school, missing of funds/computers, etc, the Naib tehsildar was sent to the school. His report has been sent to the Deputy Commissioner,” said SDM.
The Deputy Commissioner, Rajouri, had directed the Chief Education Officer to enquire the mismanagement, embezzlement of funds, lackadaisical attitude of the teaching staff, etc, at the high school in Manyal as alleged by panchyat members and inhabitants of the area, he added.
