J-K Police's counter insurgency wing conducts raids at multiple locations across Kashmir
The Counter Insurgency Kashmir wing of Jammu and Kashmir Police on Friday carried out raids at multiple locations across the Valley as part of investigation into terror activities, officials said. The raids were carried out in Budgam, Pulwama, Awantipora, Kupwara, Shopian and Srinagar districts, officials said.
A statement by the wing said searches were conducted by CIK officers after obtaining search warrant from the Court of Special Judge, designated under NIA Act, Srinagar, in a terror linked case.
They said that during the investigation, some suspects were allegedly found using a specific encrypted messaging application, which is used by terrorists and their handlers from across the border.
“These users are suspected to be in touch with suspicious entities across the border. As such, maintaining the element of surprise, the searches were meticulously planned and conducted,” the police said.
Officials said during raids, incriminating material in the form of SIM cards, mobile phones, tablets and other digital devices having bearing on the investigation of the case have been recovered and seized in the case.
“Analysis of the data would follow and leads that would emerge would become the basis for further investigation,” the statement said.
According to CIK, the operation is aimed to uncover crucial evidence, curb illicit activities, prevent the misuse of communication devices and dismantling the terror ecosystem in the UT by identifying terrorist associates/Over Ground Workers (OGWs) supporting and abetting terrorism.
