Desilting big drain passing through the Nai Basti area is the need of the hour. Every day tonnes of solid waste and polythene is dumped by the people in the drain, which is not only blocking the flow of water but also foul smell emanates from it. On many occasions residents have demanded that steps be taken to fence these big drains. The JMC should look into the problem and take steps

Speed up development of Peerkho temple

The JMC has started a beautification drive at the Peekho temple facing river Tawi. It is a long-awaited project and it would attract a lot of pilgrims and visitors, who can enjoy the natural beauty of the area opposite Bahu Fort. However, the authorities should compete the project on time as several projects have been hanging fire for years now.

Open drains aplenty

THE drains are completely defunct in Srinagar city for the past several years. These remain uncovered and pose a risk to vehicles and people in general. At Lal Chowk, drains are completely uncovered, which is becoming difficult for people, especially for those who have shops in the vicinity. When it rains, the water accumulates and the hole of the drain becomes invisible. The administration has totally failed to act on these fronts. The main city lacks basic civic infrastructure and we are not even able to hold protest against these things. We hope the administration takes some action.

Roads in a shambles

ROADS are almost macadamised every year in Srinagar and the outskirts. The contractors mint huge money on the contracts but once the winter sets in, rain and snow washes the low-grade macadam from roads. We want the administration to take some kind of guarantee on the material from contractors, so that money is not spent on the repair of these roads. The stretch from Rambagh to Mehjoor Nagar is in a shambles and gives a hard time to people while they drive on the stretch. The roads have not even been repaired after they were damaged.

Govt ill-prepared

WHILE the winter season is on in Kashmir and further prediction of snow and rains has been made, the administration does not seems prepared. We appeal to the administration that should be power and water supply without any hindrance. The residents of Lal Bazar Hubbi Colony have been suffering in the absence of electricity as the transformer develops snag continuously. We appeal to the authorities to permanently solve the issue
