President Ram Nath Kovind has appointed advocate Javed Iqbal Wani as a judge of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court.

A government notification to this effect was issued on Tuesday.

“In exercise of the power conferred by clause (1) of Article 217 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Shri Javen Iqbal Wani, to be the Judge of Common High Court for the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir and Union territory of Ladakh with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office,” the notification read.

The Supreme Court Collegium headed by Chief Justice of India SA Bobde had recommended elevation of Wani—who served as a senior additional advocate general for the erstwhile state of J&K—to the Jammu and Kashmir High Court in January.
