Two students from the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, Bhavin Thakur and Geetansh Thakur, have qualified for second degree black belt in the recently concluded 16th National ITF Taekwondo Championship, which was held in Udaipur, Rajasthan from December 29 to 31. Besides, J&K received the first runner-up shield in medals category with 18 gold, six silver and three bronze medals.

SMVDU V-C releases book

Prof R K Sinha, Vice-Chancellor, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), on Thursday released a book titled, “A Grammar of Sarazi”, published by Lincom Eurpora, Munich, Germany, authored by the faculty, Dr Amitabh V Dwivedi and researcher Dr Ravi Parihar. The authors revitalised and documented the lesser known Sarazi language spoken in Doda district of Jammu Province. Notably, the book finds its place in the library of the University of Princeton and falls under the descriptive grammar tradition of field linguistics.

Certificate courses

School of Humanities and Liberal Arts, Cluster University of Jammu (CLUJ), has invited applications from candidates for taking admission in the three-month long self financing evening certificate courses.

Directorate grants recognition

The Directorate of School Education, Jammu (DSEJ), has granted permission/recognition/extension in favour of private institutions of Jammu Province. Of the total 12 private schools, five were from Jammu district, 4 from Rajouri district and 1 each from Ramban, Kathua and Poonch district. The school directorate has tightened noose around the private educational institutes. After proper verification, these institutes were given extension/recognition by the DSEJ

Departmental promotion committee

The J&K School Education Department has constituted a departmental promotion committee to consider the promotion cases of non-gazetted staff of the School Education Department. There are around 27,000 officers/officials working in the School Education Department in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. The constitution of committee for promotion was a long-pending demand of the non-gazetted staff of the department.

USTA highlights demands

The United School Teachers Association (USTA) has demanded release of pending salary of head teachers and arrears of seventh Pay Commission. The association on Thursday also demanded that all teachers, masters and lecturers who have completed their tenure of duty in far-flung areas and out of districts should be transferred in a transparent manner. Regularisation issue of all incharge lecturers, headmasters, zonal education officers and principals was also taken up in the meeting.
