J&K to reopen all parks, gardens from Wednesday

The Jammu and Kashmir administration has decided to open public parks across the union territory from Wednesday.

The decision follows Lieutenant Governor Girish Chandra Murmu’s directions to reopen tourism sector in Jammu and Kashmir.

“We have decided to open all public parks from tomorrow. We appeal the people to maintain hygiene and wear masks while keeping in mind the social distancing norms. We will ensure thermal screening of all visitors and no unfit visitor would be allowed to enter the parks,” said Baseer Ahmad Khan, Advisor to the Lieutenant Governor.

Talking to The Tribune, Sheikh Fayaz Ahmad, Commissioner Secretary, Department of Floriculture, Parks and Gardens, said there were a total of 499 parks and gardens which were being maintained by the Floriculture Department.

“All arrangements have been made to reopen parks and gardens,” said Sheikh.

The UT administration had closed parks and gardens across Jammu and Kashmir in the second week of March following the outbreak of COVID-19.

Principal Secretary and official spokesperson of the J-K administration had last night tweeted: “J&K to reopen for tourism soon. Govt to issue detailed guidelines and SoP shortly: LG issues directions in high level meeting in Srinagar today.”
