After over 60 pilgrims undertaking the Machail Mata yatra in Kishtwar district were killed in a cloudburst recently, the administration of neighboring Doda district has decided to allow annual Kailash Kund Yatra from the traditional route only.

The annual Kailash Kund yatra in Bhaderwah of Doda is popular among the locals. The 3-day pilgrimage is scheduled to start on August 20 from Bhaderwah and culminate atop Seoj Dhar Range.

The district administration in a meeting on Sunday reviewed the arrangements and weather preparedness for the pilgrimage. Doda Deputy Commissioner Harvinder Singh held a virtual review meeting to ensure smooth, safe and well-coordinated conduct of the sacred yatra.

It was decided that strict adherence to the traditional route of the pilgrimage would be maintained. Besides, no community kitchen will be allowed near vulnerable nullahs.

“Enhanced disaster preparedness will be made and rescue teams will be deployed. Coordination among civil, security and religious committees will be maintained, and limited pilgrim flow from Udhampur and Kathua will be ensured,” a statement read.
