J-K L-G Manoj Sinha promises crop damage relief to farmers

New Delhi, October 28

Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar and J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha today virtually inaugurated an apple festival, organised for the first time in Srinagar. Speaking on the occasion, Sinha assured full financial assistance to farmers by the UT administration for the loss caused due to adverse weather in J&K.

Sinha said it was the responsibility of the J&K government to protect the land of the farmers in the UT and that the legal provision in this regard was in their interest.

Tomar said Prime Minister Narendra Modi was working with full force for the development of agriculture and allied sectors and increasing the income of farmers and India’s reputation and credibility at the international level.

Appreciating the J&K government’s efforts, Tomar said good and speedy work was being done for the development of agriculture in the UT with funds provided under various schemes by the Centre.

“Apple and Kashmir are synonymous with each other. It is the main crop and this important event will provide a better platform to apple growers and other stakeholders,” he added

With an annual production of more than 2.2 million tonnes, the apple from J&K contributes to 87% of the national production and is linked to the livelihood of about 30% of the population.
