People across Ladakh lit lights, including butter lamps, candles, torches and mobile flashlights, to express solidarity with the nation in its fight against Covid.
Lieutenant-Governor of Ladakh RK Mathur had also appealed to people to participate in the event. Later, he thanked the people of the Union Territory for making the event a success and expressing their united resolve and unwavering confidence in the collective fight against Covid.
The event was observed widely across all towns and villages of Ladakh. Locals also chanted healing mantras while lighting lamps. The Lamas, living in the monasteries, also responded enthusiastically to the call of the Prime Minister and lit oil lamps to dispel the darkness spread by coronavirus.
Candles and lamps were also lit at various historical places in and around Leh town, such as Leh Palace, Shanti Stupa and Leh Bazar. The gates of the dedicated Covid hospitals were also lit up in symbolic solidarity with the Covid patients.
