He said the work on road being constructed by the J&K government since 2013 was very slow, therefore it was needed to be transferred to National Highway Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) for timely completion.

Namgyal also requested the Union Minister for the transfer of construction of the 297.6-km-long Darcha-Padam-Nimu road from the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) to the NHIDCL for early completion. The road will connect the Union Territory of Ladakh with the rest of the nation through Himachal Pradesh.

Pursuing the long-pending demand of the people of Ladakh, Jamyang said, “The roads are of strategic importance to the border security of the nation as well boosting the rural economy in the region by promoting tourism in the adjoining areas.” The NHIDCL decided to open a site office in Ladakh soon. — OC
