Ladakh is set to launch its first electronic and application based public transport system, known as ‘Khorlo’.
Chief Executive Councillor of LAHDC, Leh, Tashi Gyalson convened a review meeting to assess the progress of the Khorlo scheme.
Highlighting Ladakh’s commitment to becoming carbon neutral, Gyalson noted that Khorlo is designed to offer eco-friendly and convenient transport options for commuters in Leh town. He further stated that this initiative will not only enhance the town public transportation system, but is also expected to generate employment opportunities for the local people.
CEC underscored the importance of setting up charging points at various localities with all necessary facilities to support the new system.
During the meeting, Deputy Director, National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology (NIEIT) Phuntsog Toldan, informed the CEC that the Khorlo software application is nearly complete and recommended that decisions need to be made regarding geo-fencing, fair rates and payment options. He also suggested conducting trial runs of Khorlo cabs before the official launch date.
In light of the upcoming launch of Khorlo cabs, the CEC instructed the vehicle company to confirm the arrivals of the e-vehicles in Leh and ensure that the homologation is completed before the launch date. He further directed that the customisation of the e-vehicles to be handled by the company itself.
Additionally, ARTO Inzar Ahmad was directed to establish the cost of Khorlo ride.
