A day before the results, BJP national spokesperson and J&K DDC election in-charge Syed Shahnawaz Hussain today called people’s participation in the recent elections as “victory of democracy”.

Addressing a press conference in Srinagar, he said people had shown their faith and trust in democracy of the country.

“It is a collective and moral victory of the people as they participated actively in the elections. It will further strengthen Kashmirat, Jamooriyat and Insaniyat,” Hussain said, according to a statement.

He said, “People have sent strong message to anti-national elements who had some other intentions. They are frustrated now as they have seen brisk polling during the elections. It is a fact that despite pressures from various quarters, people came out in large numbers and elected their representatives.

He also claimed that ‘Gupkar Gang’ along with their agents spread negative propaganda and tried to mislead people, but that didn’t work. “They created fear and panic among the people that if they voted during the elections they would be targeted by bullets and grenades, but people have sent a clear message to the world as they believe in Indian democracy,” he said.

“On the ground there was a lot of enthusiasm among the people and they have sent strong reply to them. It was for the first time that people came out in large numbers as they were terrified in the past seven decades,” he said, adding that people have rejected dynastic politics and challenged it by strengthening grass-roots democracy in the region. They want change and see development”.
