In a major success on the anti-militancy front, Army and the police have busted a militant hideout during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in Manyal area of Thanamandi police station jurisdiction of Rajouri district.

According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rajouri Chandan Kohli, they received information regarding the suspected presence at an old militant hideout in Manyal area of Thanamandi after the teams of Rajouri police, Special Operation Group and 38 Rashtriya Rifles of Army launched a Cordon And Search Operation on late Tuesday evening.

“The entire area was kept under cordon and in the wee hours of Wednesday morning, searches were launched during which a militant hideout established under a portion of dense bushes was busted,” the SSP said.

He disclosed that along with a pike rifle with 168 rounds, a Chinese pistol, a local pistol, an AK magazines, two pistol magazines, 47 AK rounds, four pistol rounds, two UBGL grenades, a binocular, eight ammunition belts, an antenna and a tape recorder have been recovered from the hideout busted during operation.

“The area is still under searches and SDPO, Thanamandi Sajjad Khan along with SHO Fareed Ahmed and officers of army’s Rashtriya Rifles are monitoring the operation,” Kohli said, adding “pro-active approach of forces and close synergy with all the sister agencies is playing its role and nefarious designs of antisocial elements are being foiled”.

Earlier on July 4, security forces had busted a militant hideout in village Dodasan Bala of Thanamandi area of Rajouri district, leading to the recovery of a huge cache of arms and ammunition.
