One militant was killed and two security personnel were injured after an encounter broke out between militants and security forces in north Kashmir’s Bandipore district, officials said on Tuesday.

According to a senior official, the gunbattle broke out in the forest area of Katsun, Bandipora.

The official confirmed that one militant was killed in the operation which was underway in the area.

Srinagar-based Army’s Chinar Corps said based on specific intelligence input regarding the presence of terrorists in general area Kaitsan forest, a joint operation was launched by the Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police and CRPF.

“Contact was established and firefight ensued. Operation is in progress,” the Army said. Last week, there was an exchange of fire between militants and the security forces in the Pannar area in Bandipore.
