Sharma highlighted the issue of the depleting water table, attributing it to the lack of water recharging initiatives. He emphasised the importance of preserving rainwater to aid in the replenishment of the water table, stressing that collaborative efforts are needed for effective water conservation. “We believe that together we can work towards their preservation,” he said.

The MC Commissioner underscored that water bodies play significant role in recharging the water table, calling them the primary sources for replenishing groundwater. He assured that the government is focused on the rejuvenation, maintenance and sanitation of these water bodies. He said that several water bodies within the Municipal limits will be included in the AMRUT (Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation) scheme and the Jan Bagidari scheme for further development.

The Commissioner also instructed the Health officer, JMC, to ensure vigilance around these water bodies to prevent garbage dumping. “Any refuse found near the water bodies should be promptly lifted,” he directed, emphasising the need for maintaining cleanliness and protecting these vital water resources.
