Mosques and shrines continued to wear a deserted look on the occasion of the holiest night of Ramadan – ‘Lailatul Qadr’ — as the Valley is bracing up for a subdued Eid celebrations.

  • Jammu: Former CM Omar Abdullah on Wednesday requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the release of detained political leaders ahead of the Eid festival.
  • “We are days away from Eid. @narendramodi ji should order the release of all detained politicians in J&K, whether under formal detention orders or informal house arrest. They have done nothing to deserve being locked away for as long as they’ve been,” Omar tweeted. TNS

Earlier, mosques would be abuzz with worshippers throughout Lailatul Qadr, observed during the intervening night of May 20 and 21. But this year, clerics had urged people to pray at their respective homes in view of Covid.

“This Ramzan was the quietest ever as we could not go to the mosques throughout the fasting month due to the lockdown. Now, Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations are going to be subdued as well, as so far we have not come across any notice of Eid congregational prayer,” said Altaf Mir, a local.

Meanwhile, Kashmir’s Grand Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam has already called for austere Eid celebrations this time around.
