During the interaction, Khatana highlighted the critical strategic importance of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) as the frontline of India’s defence. He commended the Indian Army and security forces for their relentless dedication in maintaining peace, stability and national integrity in the Union Territory.
The MP briefed the Defence Minister on the ground realities along the Line of Control (LoC) and emphasised on the need for enhanced infrastructure and welfare facilities for both defence personnel and border residents.
He urged Defence Minister to accelerate deployment of the modern surveillance systems, anti-drone technology and improved road connectivity in the forward areas to further strengthen border management. Khatana also advocated for the construction of additional community bunkers, improved civilian infrastructure and comprehensive support for the displaced and border families affected by the cross-border firing.
Reiterating the importance of balanced regional development, Khatana called for the sustained implementation of the Border Area Development Programme (BADP) — focusing on education, healthcare, digital inclusion and employment opportunities for the youth in border villages. He also suggested expanding recruitment drives for the local youth in defence and paramilitary forces for channelling their energy towards national service and capacity building.
Addressing welfare measures for serving and retired personnel, the MP proposed enhanced facilities under the Sainik Welfare Department, including housing support, educational scholarships and skill development programmes for ex-servicemen and dependents of martyrs and war widows.
