The Enforcement Directorate (ED) today again served summons on Gulshan Nazir, mother of J&K ex-CM Mehbooba Mufti, to appear at its Srinagar office on August 18 to record her statement in connection with its probe into a money laundering case.

Nazir was summoned in the past twice (April and July), but she had skipped them requesting the agency to provide her the case details beforehand. It is learnt from the sources that the ED has not yet responded to her request.

Called twice in past

  • Gulshan Nazir was summoned in the past twice (April and July), but she skipped, seeking the case details beforehand
  • The case was lodged after the ED seized two diaries of “Mufti’s associate” mentioning about some payments made from the CM’s discretionary fund

Meanwhile, the Mehbooba Mufit-led PDP slammed the ED over the development and claimed that it was no coincidence that a summons was served every time the party registered a protest against the Centre’s J&K policy.

According to reports, the PDP has again asked the ED to provide the details of the case so that she could prepare legally and know what she is going to be asked about.

The party has also conveyed to the ED that she should be allowed human assistance as she was not well versed with English, Hindi and Urdu languages and if the details of the case were known, it would help her in being prepared for the questioning.

The criminal case filed under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) is linked to the recovery of at least two diaries by the ED after raids on an alleged associate of Mufti. The diaries contain the details of some purported payments made from the CM’s discretionary fund in alleged contravention of rules, officials said.
