NAAC team on 3-day visit to University of Jammu

The University of Jammu welcomed a seven-member National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) Peer Team on Wednesday for a three-day visit as part of its 4th Accreditation Cycle. The team was received with a ceremonial guard of honour by the NCC Girls Unit.

The visit began with an opening meeting at The Business School, where Vice Chancellor Prof Umesh Rai delivered a detailed presentation outlining the university’s vision, achievements and transformative initiatives undertaken over the years. Prof. Rai highlighted the institution’s ongoing efforts to enhance academic and administrative excellence.

The university is being assessed based on seven NAAC parameters, including curricular aspects focusing on academic innovation and flexibility, teaching-learning and evaluation methods emphasising learner-centric approaches and transparent assessments. Research, innovations and community outreach initiatives are also key areas of evaluation, along with infrastructure and learning resources that reflect advanced facilities and efficient resource utilisation. Student support and progression mechanisms nurturing holistic development and career advancement, governance and leadership practices showcasing accountability, and institutional values prioritising sustainability and ethical standards are equally significant in the accreditation process.

An official stated, “During the visit, the team was also apprised about the university’s green campus initiatives, particularly the restriction on the entry of four-wheelers inside the campus, which underscores the university’s commitment to environmental sustainability.”

The peer team also interacted with faculty members and visited various teaching departments to evaluate the relevance of curricula, faculty research contributions, student achievements, infrastructure and the overall quality of academic programmes. They assessed teaching practices, research innovations and mechanisms in place to support students’ academic and personal growth.
