Thought-provoking Opinions, Expert Analysis, In-depth Insights and other Member Only BenefitsWhile the National Conference (NC) is leaving no opportunity to attack the BJP, the saffron party is banking on the development plank ahead of the Nagrota byelection to be held on November 11.
BJP J&K president and Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament Sat Sharma — during a rally in the constituency on Sunday — asserted that the byelection in Nagrota is not just about choosing a representative but about choosing the future of the constituency.
He said, “The BJP stands for development, transparency and empowerment of the last person in the queue. Under PM Narendra Modi’s leadership, J&K has entered a new era of peace, progress and political stability.”
Sharma asked the voters to support BJP candidate Devyani Rana who is the daughter of former MLA from the area - Devender Singh Rana - who passed away last year.
“The people of Nagrota must now ensure that the momentum of development is carried forward by electing Devyani Rana, a young and dynamic candidate who symbolises women empowerment and new aspirations,” he said.
He further stated that no other party has the courage or vision to match the “BJP’s commitment to nation-building”.
Meanwhile, addressing a series of gatherings, NC MLA Arjun Singh called upon the voters to vote for party candidate Shamim Begum.
Alleging that the BJP had failed on every front—particularly in delivering progress, employment and basic amenities across Jammu, especially in Nagrota, during their regime, Singh said that the BJP’s tenure had been marked by “hollow promises” and neglect of people’s basic needs.
“Our youth need jobs, our mothers and sisters need healthcare and our elders deserve dignity and support which the BJP failed to deliver during their tenure. Homes don’t run on emotive issues—people need a government that delivers electricity, roads and essential services,” Singh said.
“When Jammu faced floods and landslides, Omar Abdullah and his Cabinet stood with the people, ensuring timely help and relief. In contrast, the BJP leadership chose to remain indoors. This time, the people of Jammu and Nagrota will give them a fitting reply by electing Shamim and strengthening Omar Abdullah’s government,” he said.
