NC leader tests positive; 10 deaths in J&K

Ten persons, including eight from Kashmir, died on Thursday due to Covid-19, taking the death toll in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) to 115, an official spokesman said. In the UT, 154 persons tested positive, taking the caseload to 7,849.

Meanwhile, senior National Conference (NC) leader, Ali Mohammad Sagar, tested positive for Covid-19 along with his three family members.

Out of the fresh 154 positive cases, 20 were reported from the Jammu province and 134 from the Kashmir valley.

Out of the eight deaths in Kashmir, four were reported in the Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Soura, three at Shri Maharaja Hari Singh (SMHS) hospital and one at Chest Disease Hospital (CDH) in Srinagar, health officials said.

At SKIMS, a 65-year-old man from Nadigam Shopian, a resident of Tarigam Kulgam, a 55-year-old from Kulgam and 65-year-old man from Baramulla district died in the last 24 hours.

At the SMHS, a 73-year-old woman from Batmaloo, a 75-year-old man from Budgam and a 65-year-old man from Kulgam died due to coronavirus.

At the CDH, a 60-year-old resident of the Habba Kadal area of Srinagar died.

Atotal of 115 persons have so far succumbed to the virus in J&K— 102 in Kashmir and 13 in the Jammu division.

According to the official bulletin, Srinagar district has reported 27 deaths, the highest in any district in J&K. Srinagar is followed by Baramulla (18), Kulgam (16), Shopian (12), Anantnag (9), Budgam (8), Jammu (8), Kupwara (6), Pulwama (four), Doda (2). One death each has been reported from Bandipora, Poonch, Udhampur, Rajouri and Kathua.
