The Economic Offences Wing of Crime Branch Kashmir successfully secured convictions in two separate criminal cases, according to an official statement. The agency said it marks “a significant achievement in its ongoing efforts to combat economic crimes in the region.”

The statement said in the first case, the Court of City Judge Srinagar convicted accused Mukhtar Ahmad Guroo, a resident of Nehru Park Dalgate, Srinagar, and Nazir Ahmed in a case of Crime Branch Kashmir (now Economic Offences Wing).

The case pertained to grabbing of Rs 34 lakh from the complainant on the pretext of purchase of a residential property, concealing the fact that the “complainant — being a foreigner — cannot do so…The accused was found guilty of causing substantial financial loss to the complainant.” After a trial of 12 years, the court convicted both the accused individuals to simple imprisonment for two years and imposed a fine.

In another case, the Court of City Judge Srinagar delivered a verdict in a case against seven accused individuals involved in preparing and submitting fake marks card of class X for seeking admission for one of the accused in a higher secondary school.

‘The court convicted all seven accused individuals to simple imprisonment for a period of two years and imposed a fine,” the agency said.
